Is The Hail Damage Worth Repairing?

Hail is a common occurrence throughout the year with the storms that hit the Logan and Providence areas. Your first worry, when it does hit, might be the damage it could cause to your car. However, what you may not realize is hail could be causing serious damage to your roof, too. If you do not repair the damage right away, it will only get worse, and more expensive to repair. The problem is, how do you know if you have hail damage to begin with?

Hail Damage Can Be Difficult to See

Hail can show up in a wide range of sizes. You do not need to be as concerned about small, pellet-sized hail as you would with large hail the size of a quarter, or yikes…the size of a golf ball or baseball!

If you have skylights, you might see cracks from inside your home or damage to your home’s gutters. But seeing any damage to your roof from the ground can be difficult.

Asphalt shingles that have been hit by large hail may show some dark spots. These spots may appear to be shiny because granules of asphalt have been broken away. You may see granules laying on the ground around your home or in your gutters. If you have wooden shingles, there could be tiny splits in the wood. There will also be indentation marks on the roof from hail. You may not see them, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

Don’t Wait to Repair Hail Damage

Your home may be your family’s greatest investment, and your roof is its first line of defense against the elements. You want to do whatever you can to protect that investment. So, what if you see only a few telltale marks on your roof after a storm? Should you just shrug your shoulders and ignore it? You might wonder if the hail damage is worth fixing. The answer is yes! Why? When hail damage is not fixed, your roof will age faster and require full replacement sooner, which will usually not be covered by insurance.

A roofing professional who is experienced with hail damage should go up on your roof and perform an inspection. Don’t risk your own safety to attempt this! Even more important, if you want your homeowner’s insurance to cover the repair costs, your insurer will require a professional roof inspection.

Don’t wait! Contact RoofTek® to inspect your roof right after a severe hailstorm. We will work with you and your insurer to repair the damage and prevent more damage.
